Clinical Research Studies
Sometimes, available treatments are not enough to fully control the symptoms or the progress of some eye conditions. Since 1989, we have been committed to help find new and better treatments for unsolved problems. Our practice is recognized internationally for our experience in clinical research, having completed over 100 multicenter studies together with doctors around the country, working to develop new treatments. Our practice is proud to have been personally involved in the studies that helped bring the only two FDA-approved eyedrop treatments for dry eye to market.
Because most studies continue for 3-12 months, and new studies open often, we do not list details of ongoing studies here, but invite patients to speak with us to find out if they might be candidates to participate in a study. Our major areas of research include: dry eyes, meibomian gland dysfunction (evaporative dry eye), inflammatory eye diseases (uveitis), corneal transplantation and infections. We are also involved in studies of new innovative contact lenses. There are generally no charges for the visits in research studies, and reimbursement for patient travel costs is often available through these studies.
Tauber Eye Center is affiliated with many pharmaceutical and device innovators to offer ground-breaking treatments and emerging technology. Our participation in FDA-approved clinical trials allows us to provide qualified patients access to advancements in eyecare not yet available to the general public.
