Why Choose Us?

Experience, Advanced Technology and Safety. Perhaps no three factors are as important as these when it comes to choosing to whom to entrust your eye care.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Experience is crucial in selecting a surgeon. You need someone who knows not only the basics, but who has also encountered special cases and has dealt with them successfully.

A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Tauber comes from a tradition of excellence in medical care. He is a board certified ophthalmologist with double fellowship training in the treatment and surgery of corneal diseases, refractive surgery and ocular immunology. Dr. Tauber was one of the original investigators of the excimer laser in 1989 and one of the first surgeons to perform laser vision correction in the United States. He has specialized in advanced methods of corneal transplantation and is one of only few surgeons who perform surgery with the artificial corneal transplant (Boston keratoprosthesis).

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

When you put something as important as your eyesight in someone else’s hands, do you want your doctor to use good equipment or the best equipment?

Equipment and technology can make a big difference in the quality of your results. You should not compromise on technology when it applies to your vision. At Tauber Eye Center, we certainly will not. We offer our patients the most comprehensive and advanced combination of diagnostic and treatment technology available anywhere.

For laser vision correction procedures, we use the VISX laser exclusively. VISX pioneered the development of excimer laser systems and remains the industry leader in quality and innovation, trusted in over 2 million procedures. VISX laser systems have features that translate into several advantages for you. In addition to laser vision correction, we offer our patients the latest advances in corneal transplants, cataract care and intraocular lenses. Our laser and surgery center is the premier ambulatory surgery center in the region for eye surgeries, having been designed expressly for that purpose. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and our patients frequently write to express their satisfaction following their surgical experience.

SAFETY

At Tauber Eye Center, we are committed to your safety. Patient care is our top priority. We do not pressure patients to have procedures or surgeries; we discuss each patient’s needs and difficulties and offer options to improve vision for daily activities. Only careful examination of your eyes and your individual case/needs will determine whether surgery is appropriate for you.

REPUTATION

At Tauber Eye Center, we serve patients from the entire Midwest region, not only Missouri and Kansas. Patients trust their eyes to us because of our solid reputation for skilled, safe surgery and exceptional patient care. Dedicated to eye care research for over twenty five years, Dr. Tauber has developed a national and international reputation for pioneering new ideas, and is continuously sought out by manufacturers to conduct clinical trials on new procedures, pharmaceuticals, surgical devices and diagnostic equipment. Tauber Eye Center is recognized as a center of excellence in Kansas City. Patients with the most complex eye problems often come to us for treatment, and we take pride in the level of expertise we offer.

Dr. Tauber has written over 80 papers, books and book chapters on a variety of topics related to corneal disease and refractive surgery, and he is on the editorial board of five medical journals. He has lectured throughout the United States and abroad on topics of his special interests.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

PERSONAL CARE AND ATTENTION

We believe that it is vital to have personal care from your surgeon starting with the initial evaluation and at all following visits after the procedure. Many high-volume LASIK or cataract centers will have a technician evaluate you before surgery and refer you back to a non-surgeon for all follow-up care. This means you will only meet your surgeon on the day of surgery and never see him or her again. Be very cautious of this scenario. Skillful surgery is only just one of the responsibilities of the surgeon. Non-surgical providers are not fully capable of diagnosing subtle problems and may miss risk factors or delay your referral back to the surgeon.

Dr. Tauber believes it is important to establish an “old fashioned” doctor-patient relationship. He is always available via e-mail or phone for questions. Other technicians may be involved in your care as well, but there is no substitute for the in-depth knowledge and experience of the surgeon.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Quality medical care begins with a professional and caring attitude. It extends to thoroughness and accuracy of data collection in preparation for surgery. It involves a well-trained, skilled surgeon and competent supportive surgical staff to perform the best surgery. It means using state-of-the-art laser and other surgical equipment. It is enhanced by the comfort of a first-class facility.

COMPASSIONATE EXCELLENCE IN EYE CARE

From the moment you walk into Tauber Eye Center, you will find a warm, relaxing environment and be greeted by our friendly staff. Every member of our team is dedicated to providing excellent patient care. Our motto is “Patient Care First,” and we will work hard to make you feel like you are our priority throughout every step of your care with us.

We are not a publicly traded corporate laser center focused on profitability. We are not a high-volume “laser mill” where pre- and post-op care is provided by non-surgeons. Our mission is to provide a caring experience to only as many people as we can easily accommodate.

We are a local ophthalmology practice with over 27 years of service to the local community. Our center is “Doctor Owned” and managed. In addition to laser vision correction, we perform cataract and corneal surgery and have cared for tens of thousands of patients throughout their entire lifetime. We provide ongoing care to our patients that does not end 3 or 6 months after surgery. In fact, almost all of our patients remain in our practice for all their future eye care.

We invite you to visit Tauber Eye Center and experience our commitment to helping you achieve your own personal best vision. See for yourself why our patients turn to us for the best eye care treatment available.
